Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, an important time for the YWCA community to reflect on what it really means to be an organization dedicated to eliminating racism.
The YWCA network is extremely excited to announce the recent discovery of an article written by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. himself for the December 1960 edition of the YWCA Magazine. Entitled “The Rising Tide of Racial Consciousness”, his piece was adapted from an address he gave at a convening of the National Urban League at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. Click here to read more about this historical discovery and read the full piece.
It is also important that we take this opportunity to dream of our future. This April, the YWCA Racial Justice Challenge will return for its 5th year. This virtual learning tool is designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership. If you’re interested in taking the challenge with your colleagues, join us this Wednesday, January 18th at 11:30 AM for an info session to learn about partnership opportunities and best practices around how to engage your organization.
