Since 2016, I have had the amazing opportunity to attend the annual It’s Time to Talk event as a sponsor, participant, and as a racial justice facilitator. I became involved with this event because It’s Time to Talk creates a seat at the table for community members across NE Ohio regardless of title, role, or background.
Any organization that is serious about walking the talk with diversity and inclusion should look to get involved with YWCA Greater Cleveland and It’s Time to Talk. Sending a small group of executives and employees to the event to take part in the discussion provided a simple yet impactful way for my former employer to establish the tone at the top with regard to D&I and to continue their development as a community leader in diversity and cultural competency.
As an inclusion advocate, I find that I occasionally need to “fill my cup.” Each year, after my experiences at It’s Time to Talk, I walk away feeling more connected to my peers from across the community, renewed energy, and increased commitment to staying in the work. Please join me and others from across NE Ohio at the 2019 It’s Time to Talk event.
