The Shelter Advocate ensures the day to day safety of Norma Herr Women’s Center guests, coordinates daily meal services, facilitates life skill programming, facilitates after-hours screening & intake for shelter guests, provides crisis and de-escalation interventions utilizing trauma informed approaches, and participates in daily shift report and data collection activities.

YWCA Greater Cleveland’s Early Learning Center provides high-quality early childhood education for children ages three to five years while empowering mothers and fathers to pursue their career and educational goals. The YWCA incorporates a therapeutic approach and two-generational model into the Early Learning Center.  This innovative trauma-informed model assesses and identifies the social-emotional needs of the children, works with families to create case plans, achieve goals, prevents re-occurrence of homelessness, and empowers families to achieve and maintain the highest level of self-sufficiency. 

Some of the main duties of the Lead Teacher are to: 

  • Actively provide quality care in accordance with ODJFS rules and regulations and Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP).  
  • Create and implement lesson plans that align the Ohio Early Learning Content Standards with the curriculum and include individualization for each child. 
  • Interact with parents to keep them informed of their child’s growth and development, as well as answer questions and address concerns. 
  • Document child observations and assessments, attendance and meal count sheets, as well as parent and other meeting notes.
